General Guidelines for Parents – Indian Public School Howrah

  1. Daily Almanac Check:
Parents are expected to review their child’s school almanac every day. This helps you stay informed about assignments, teacher notes, and important school updates. Please sign the communication section to confirm you have read the messages.
  2. Prompt Update of Contact Information:
If there is any change in your address, phone number, or other contact details, please notify the school office immediately. Up-to-date information is crucial for effective communication, especially in emergencies.
  3. Attendance on Key Days:
It is mandatory for students to be present on the first and last day of each term and after vacations. Absence on these days, without prior approval, may result in strict action from the school.
  4. Classroom Visits Restricted:
Parents are not permitted to enter classrooms or meet teachers during class hours. To discuss your child’s progress, please schedule appointments for meetings during official visiting hours.
  5. Sick Children Should Stay Home:
If your child is unwell or recovering from illness, please keep them at home until they are fit to return. The school cannot be held responsible for any complications arising from illness during school hours.
  6. Clearly Label Belongings:
All items such as uniforms, bags, shoes, books, and lunch boxes must have your child’s name, class, section, house, and admission number clearly marked. This helps prevent loss and mix-ups.
  7. No Valuables Allowed:
Students are not allowed to bring mobile phones, expensive watches, electronic gadgets, or large sums of cash to school. The school will not be responsible for the loss or theft of these items.
  8. Medical Certificate for Extended Absence:
If your child is absent for more than three days due to illness, a medical certificate and a note from the parent must be submitted to the class teacher when your child returns.
  9. Official Communication Protocol:
Any correspondence with the school should be addressed to the class teacher. Always include your child’s full name, admission number, class, and section on an A4 sheet for clarity.
  10. Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs):
Attendance at PTMs is compulsory for both parents and the student, who must come in full school uniform. If you are unable to attend, please inform the class teacher in advance. Be punctual and maintain a respectful attitude during these meetings.
  11. Uniform Policy:
Wearing the full school uniform is compulsory every day, including on birthdays and special occasions. No exceptions will be made.
  12. Respect for School and Teachers:
Parents are advised not to criticize the school or teachers in front of their children. Negative comments can undermine a child’s respect for educators and hinder their learning experience.
  13. Progress Report Procedures:
After each assessment, parents must sign and return the progress report card to the class teacher by the next working day. If the report card is lost or damaged, a duplicate will be provided after payment of a fine.
  14. No Lunch or Belongings Delivery:
The school does not take responsibility for delivering lunch packets or other items to students during school hours. In rare emergencies, the school may provide a small snack.
  15. Care for School Property:
Students must respect all school property. Any damage caused will be charged to the student responsible, along with a fine as determined by the management.
  16. Birthday and Gift Policy:
No gifts, presents, or return gifts are allowed for birthdays or any other occasion. Students may distribute only two toffees (e.g., éclairs) per classmate on their birthday. Gifts for teachers or staff are not permitted.
  17. Escort Card Requirement:
Parents must carry the official Escort Card when picking up their child or attending school events. If the card is lost, apply for a replacement with recent photographs and pay the required fee.
  18. Jewelry and Personal Adornments:
Only girls may wear a small pair of ear studs or rings. The use of nail polish, mehendi, tattoos, kajal, or hair dye is strictly prohibited for all students.
  19. Replacement of Escort Card:
If the Escort Card is lost more than once, parents must submit a police general diary (GD) report along with the application for a new card.
  20. Contacting School Authorities:
Do not contact the Headmaster, Headmistress, or teachers by phone. Meetings must be arranged during designated visiting hours.
  21. Minimum Attendance Requirement:
Students must maintain at least 75% attendance in each semester. Exceptions are made only for genuine medical reasons supported by proper documentation.
  22. Missed Assessments:
If a student misses an exam or assessment, re-testing will be considered only with prior approval from the school authorities.
  23. Strict Policy on Cheating:
Any student caught using unfair means during examinations will face disciplinary action as per school policy.
  24. Parental Involvement in Daily Routine:
Parents are encouraged to monitor their child’s punctuality, attendance, and discipline regularly and take an active interest in their academic progress.
  25. Consult School Publications First:
Before calling the school with questions, refer to the school calendar, date sheets, and circulars as most information is already provided there.
  26. Read and Explain Rules:
Parents and guardians are requested to read all school rules with their child and ensure these are understood and followed at all times.

By following these comprehensive guidelines, parents help us maintain a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment for all students at Indian Public School Howrah. Your cooperation is vital for your child’s success and for the smooth functioning of our school community. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.
