Orientation Programme

At Indian Public School, Howrah (IPS Howrah), we believe that a child’s education is a shared journey between the school and parents. To ensure a smooth beginning for our youngest learners, we organized an Orientation Programme for parents. This orientation was designed to introduce them to the school system, help them understand how we work, and show how we can work together to support every child’s overall development.

Purpose of the Orientation Programme

Starting school can be a big step for both children and parents. The orientation aimed to:

  • Build a strong connection between the school and families
  • Help parents understand school rules, values, and teaching methods
  • Explain how communication and cooperation between parents and school is important
  • Ensure every child gets a safe, supportive, and joyful learning environment from day one

Warm Welcome and Introduction

The session began with a warm welcome by the school team, where parents were made to feel comfortable and valued. They were introduced to the school’s approach to early education and were assured that their children are in safe hands.

Meet Our Principal Ma’am

One of the highlights of the session was the formal introduction to our respected Principal Ma’am, who addressed all parents. She shared the school’s mission and vision, the importance of discipline and punctuality, and how IPS Howrah is committed to shaping students who are not only academically strong but also good human beings.

Getting Started with the Vawsum App

To make communication easy and regular, parents were introduced to the Vawsum App, the official school communication platform. Through this app, parents will receive:

  • Class updates
  • Homework and assignments
  • Event notices and photo galleries
  • Attendance records
  • Important announcements and reminders

Parents were guided on how to use the app effectively to stay connected with the school on a daily basis.

Topics Covered During the Orientation

Here’s a quick look at all the important points that were discussed during the orientation:

1. School Rules and Discipline📘

Parents were informed about the importance of discipline in the school. Rules related to behavior, dress code, punctuality, and general conduct were shared in detail.

2. School Timings🕒

Exact entry and dispersal timings were discussed to ensure a smooth routine for students and avoid any confusion.

3. Exam Pattern📚

The assessment system and exam schedule were explained, including how we focus on regular evaluations instead of stressful exams.

4. Diary Pages📖

A detailed explanation was given on how to use the student diary for daily communication between teachers and parents, as well as keeping track of homework and important notes.

5. 75% Attendance Rule🧾

Parents were reminded that a minimum of 75% attendance is necessary for academic continuity and participation in exams and activities.

6. Parents’ Role in Education🧍‍♀️

We discussed how parents play a key role in the learning journey by supporting daily study habits, encouraging reading, and maintaining a positive home environment.

7. Escort Cards🪪

To ensure the safety of every child, the escort card system was introduced. Only authorized persons with the correct ID will be allowed to pick up students.

8. Annual Events and Celebrations🎉

Parents were given a preview of the many school events that take place during the year — including festivals, competitions, cultural programs, and sports day.

9. Child Safety Within School Premises🛡️

A detailed explanation of child safety policies was provided. This includes secure entry-exit points, CCTV monitoring, verified staff, and emergency protocols.

Focus on Holistic Development

At IPS Howrah, we strongly believe that education is not just about books and exams. The orientation also covered various extracurricular activities offered by the school such as:

  • Drawing and Craft
  • Dance and Music
  • Yoga and Physical Education
  • Storytelling and Public Speaking
  • Cultural Celebrations and Fun Days

These activities help children learn life skills, build confidence, and grow in every way possible.

Why Parent Involvement Matters

We encouraged parents to be active partners in their child’s school life. When parents are involved:

  • Children feel more confident
  • Academic performance improves
  • Discipline and focus increase
  • Emotional and social growth becomes stronger

Regular communication, attending PTMs, checking the diary, and being involved in school events go a long way in helping children do better.

Conclusion: A Great Start Together

The Junior Section Orientation Programme at IPS Howrah was a meaningful and engaging session. It gave parents all the information they needed to support their child’s early education journey. It also showed how IPS Howrah is not just a school, but a second home where children are loved, guided, and encouraged to become the best version of themselves.

We are truly excited to start this journey with our new batch of tiny learners and look forward to working together with our parents for a bright academic year ahead!

Stay Connected📱

We encourage all parents to stay in touch using the Vawsum App, and feel free to reach out to the school for any guidance or support.
